A plant-based diet rich in soy reduces troubling menopause symptoms by 84%.
According to the WAVS study (the Women’s Study for the Alleviation of Vasomotor Symptoms) sponsored by the North American Menopause Society, a plant-based diet rich in soy reduces moderate-to-severe hot flashes by 84%, from nearly five per day to fewer than one per day. During the 12-week study, nearly 60% of women became totally free of moderate-to-severe hot flashes. Overall hot flashes (including mild ones) decreased by 79%.
Note: It’s important to know that soy contains phytoestrogens, which are compounds that act like estrogen in your body. While they may be helpful if you battle low estrogen levels, they can be a fibroid challenge, as high estrogen levels can spur fibroid growth.
